The Robertson Foundation was established by Julian and Josie Robertson and their family in 1996. Since then, the Foundation's program staff has grown to eight full-time professionals, and it continues to grow as the foundation's grant-making capacity expands.
Philanthropy is a core value long shared by Julian and Josie Robertson. They have provided support for an array of charitable entities through their individual giving, as well as through the Robertson Foundation and other affiliated foundations - the Tiger Foundation and the Blanche and Julian Robertson Family Foundation.
Tiger Foundation was started in 1990 by Julian Robertson, together with other employees of Tiger Management LLC. Among Mr. Robertson's goals in creating the Foundation were to provide financial support to the top non-profit organizations serving New York City's neediest families, and to encourage active, informed philanthropy among the investment staff at the firm. Today, many of those Tiger alumni have become significant philanthropists in their own right.
In 1997, Mr. Robertson established The Blanche and Julian Robertson Family Foundation in memory of his parents. Based in Mr. Robertson's birthplace of Salisbury, N.C., the Blanche and Julian Robertson Family Foundation is a community foundation, separate and distinct from the Robertson Foundation.
(The Robertson Foundation is not related to the entity that was established in 1961 by Charles and Marie Robertson and is associated with the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University.)
